New College Campus – Birmingham

New College Campus (Phase 2), Birmingham

Pyments have been commissioned to provide our Independent Project Monitoring Service for Phase 2 of a new college campus in Birmingham.

The campus, part of the next phase of a £100 million investment in student facilities with a £38 million higher education centre in the Jewellery Quarter, is set to open in September 2019.

A new red brick building, comprising 13,000 sq m of floor space, designed in keeping with the architectural heritage of the Jewellery Quarter Conservation Area, will provide state-of-the art student facilities to include three lecture theatres, modern teaching spaces, a high performance strengthening and conditioning suite for sports studies, a gym and an American-style student diner.

Both the first and second floors will have eight classrooms able to house up to fifty students each, with three 100-seat lecture theatres. It will also incorporate break-out spaces, semi-formal meeting areas and offices for private meetings.

A new strengthening and conditioning suite includes a high performance laboratory,  for use by undergraduates on sports therapy and sports science degrees, as well as a 35 metre indoor running track and a new gym for the benefit of all students.

The buildings central atrium will be flooded with natural light and will house a central feature staircase in wood, with exposed concrete columns, metal and glass creating a fresh industrial feel.
